our work
the relationship
Organised by the BBC, Children in Need gains the majority of its donations by individuals doing something a little different and a little funny, sitting in a bath of baked beans being one of our personal favourites!
The charity appeal needed a way of getting more people involved and donating online, but at the same time keeping it laugh-out-loud funny.
In 2009, Children in Need launched their ‘Doing Something Different’ campaign, the perfect opportunity to address an online audience.
So the charity tasked us with developing its first digital application as it made its foray into the digital space.
our idea
Based on the lovable Pudsey bear, Children in Need’s heroic icon, we designed a clever social media fundraising microsite which was hosted on the charity appeal’s homepage.
When clicking on the ‘ways to raise money’ banner on the Children in Need homepage, our microsite launched in a separate window, at which point you could upload your Facebook profile photo and decorate it with bear ears, and/or Pudsey’s tailor-made bandana.
Each new photo could be instantly uploaded to social network profiles on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace and each raised a £1 donation for the ‘Children in Need’ appeal.
our highlights
Across both 2009 and 2010, this simple but effective initiative has raised over £20,000 for Children in Need.
